The cars Californians choose set the tone for EV sales for 2021. Here’s the top 10 and their sales (and links to our latest reviews/news): Tesla Model 3 EV – 67,262. Toyota Prius Prime PHEV – 14,275. The number of EVs in my neighborhood seems to be growing weekly. Tesla Model Y EV – 61,022. Chevrolet Bolt EV – 12,313.

Thanks to the Prius (AT PZEV category), Toyota has a large credit bank. A vehicle manufacturer’s ZEV requirement is based on a percentage of all passenger cars and light-duty trucks up to 8,500 lbs, delivered for sale in California. Alternatively, may we suggest the sound of the neighborhood ice cream truck? Until then, we can always program the ESS to make what Lotus refers to as "more futuristic sounds for electric vehicles [that] can be created using sampled sounds and generated waveforms." Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse. Of course, everything has its drawbacks and one problem with charging at home is that it is not an option available for some city dwellers. Follow us on Twitter!
