I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. My lifetime tally is 231 mpg, which means I’ve used less than 80 gallons of gas over the car’s 42 months on the road. Would I have bought my Volt without the rebate?

First was to introduce the second generation Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric car (which gets tossed in with plug-in hybrids even though its system really takes a different approach).

How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? You can fill it up at the gas station, and you can plug it in to any 120-volt outlet. At $3 for a gallon of gas, driving a non-hybrid car costs 8-20 cents/mile (depending on MPG). What Are Plug-In Hybrids? We can achieve that -- today -- with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

I wish the thing was for sale as-is. and 49 mpg. Well they did give brief bursts of acceleration through the parking lot to show that it does have some Roadster goodness to it. But yes, there was no slalom to see how it handles the twisties. It is probably a real rocket compared to the Daimler version that will eventually show up.
