Ford’s all-new Focus Electric has been certified by the EPA to offer 105 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) combined, with 110 MPGe city and 99 MPGe on the highway. Consumption is 34 kWh/100 miles, combined cycle. The smaller Mitsubishi i-MiEV is rated at 112 MPGe combined, with consumption of 30 kWh/100 miles.

Encased in metal and painted black, the battery looked much smaller than a Roadster pack and is said to be able to power the fortwo up to 100 miles. Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait. New York 2009: The Scion iQ goes Big Wheels!

Chryslers first electric car, set to be introduced late next year around the same time as General Motors Chevrolet Volt, will be a sports car with a zero-to-60 time of under five seconds and a top speed of 120 miles per hour. Power will come from a 200 kilowatt, or 268 horsepower, electric motor.

However, because of the duty cycle used by the Postal Service, which generally amounts to only about 18-20 miles per day on a fixed route, these vehicles are being built without the range extender seen on the concept. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers.
