Pierburg GmbH, a member of the KSPG Group, has been awarded contracts worth a lifetime total of €250 million (US$342 million) for a newly developed compact exhaust-gas recirculation valve. Ordered by European and North American automakers, the valve will be installed in engines designed to comply with the Euro 6 emission norm.

Mercedes-Benz has already gathered experience with hydrogen-powered electric vehicles over several vehicle generations. The only exhaust gas emitted was water vapor—1800 tonnes of it in all. Fuel cell technology remains an integral part of Daimler’s powertrain strategy.

About one-third of emissions globally are produced through electricity generation, and Rahman said his mission is to help reduce that amount through engineering solutions.
