Alcohol and gasoline-alcohol blends also offer efficiency benefits independent of their octane value. Most regular-grade gasoline in the US is sold with a minimum octane rating of 87 AKI, corresponding to approximately 91−92 RON. Premium-grade gasoline is listed as 91−93 AKI minimum, corresponding to 96−98 RON.

Ford has officially announced the second member of its turbocharged, gasoline direct-injection EcoBoost family, a 2.0-liter, TI-VCT varies the phase of the intake and exhaust cams independently for improved airflow through the engine, which delivers more torque while reducing average fuel consumption by up to 5%.
