Paine was one of the first to lease a General Motors EV1 in 1997 — only to get the car wrenched away from him five years later when he took it in simply to get a brake light fixed. That they still trash the EV1 to make the case for the Volt doesn’t help- beyond the fact that they are different cars meant for very different markets. While the EV1 wasn’t flawless, it became the benchmark of what GM was capable of in both engineering and consumer passion. I will say simply that this is not that.
