Ford has into a partnership with Johnson Controls-Saft (JCS) to develop advanced lithium-ion battery system to power Ford’s first production plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) beginning in 2012. EPRI, which is providing financial and logistical support for extensive new studies, formed the collaboration of utilities for the program.

The basic question addressed, which appears on the study homepage (epri-reports.org) is this: How would air quality and greenhouse gas emissions be affected if significant numbers of Americans drove cars that were fueled by the power grid? I truly hope we have turned a corner.

You can fill it up at the gas station, and you can plug it in to any 120-volt outlet. But when you do, your car essentially becomes an electric vehicle with a gas-tank backup. So youll have a cleaner, cheaper, quieter car for your local travel, and the gas tank is always there should you need to drive longer distances.
