MHI) has completed development of the “Sayaringo STaGE,” a next-generation LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier. Leveraging the Sayaringo STaGE’s capacity for transporting North American shale gas, MHI plans to undertake extensive business activities promoting the new vessel as a strategic product among its LNG carrier offerings.

The Emerald Ace is equipped with a hybrid electric power supply system that combines a 160 kW solar generation system—jointly developed by MHI, Energy Company of Panasonic Group, and MOL—with lithium-ion batteries that can store some 2.2 MWh of electricity. The ships are slated for launching in 2016 and 2017.
