One of the largest changes between 2018 and 2019 was a major increase in the import of Iraq crude: from 30,808,908 barrels in 2018 to 56,764,587 barrels in 2019. All the other major sources of crude declined, with the exception of Ecuador, which increased 18.7% The rest of the US and 11 other countries supply the bulk of the remainder.

By adding an airbase to their military presence in Syria, the Russians—coordinating with Iran, Syrian President Assad, and eventually possibly Iraq—would have the capability to disrupt shipments from Persian Gulf and Red Sea terminals. Live by Energy…. Russia’s export channels are less susceptible to disruption.

Saudi Arabian oil accounted for 11% (52,372,452 barrels) and Iraq provided 10% (45,901,399). Ecuador was another large single contributor, with 11% (55,091,542). The largest portion of crude supplied to California refineries in 2020 came from within the state itself: 148,013,383 barrels, or 31%.
