US car maker Ford has some hard work ahead if it is to meet new CAFE regulations and still sell the SUVs and pick-up trucks that are so popular across its home country. The Federal Government now requires a fleet average of 35.5mpg by the 2016 model year - this is an increase from today’s average of 25.3mpg.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is on the lookout for proposals for projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions both in terms of the tons of pollution produced and diesel emissions exposure. Single proposals may target multiple fleets and fleet types or diesel emission reduction solutions.
