Throughout 2017, a fully-functional Finnish sauna on wheels will travel 12,000 miles across the US. Neste’s low-carbon drop-in renewable diesel called Neste MY Renewable Diesel will be used to fuel the truck carrying the sauna while traveling along the UUS West Coast.

Finland-based forestry-industry company UPM, VTT and VV-Auto Group will start fleet tests of renewable diesel produced mainly from crude tall oil, which is a residue of chemical pulp production, UPM BioVerno. UPM BioVerno diesel has previously been studied in engine and vehicle tests conducted by VTT and others.

UPS announced agreements for up to 46 million gallons of renewable diesel over the next three years, constituting a 15-fold increase over prior contracts and making UPS one of the largest users of renewable diesel in the world. Neste, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, is the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel.

A three-year biofuel trial organized by Neste Oil, Helsinki Region Transport (HSL), and Proventia has recently been completed, and the results have shown that Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel can significantly reduce local emissions that have a direct impact on urban air quality. From 2008 onwards, some ran on 100% NExBTL.
