Hopefully the funding was from the same place as well… 2 Bill C said on March 13th, 2009 at 1:21 pm I think a few billion should be taken out of the Detroit bailout and give some capital to all of the electric car companies. The tango (commuter cars) says they only need 50 million to become profitable. This is a drop in the bucket.

It is reminiscent of the early 1900’s, when steam, electric, diesel, biomass, and gasoline power options competed on a level playing field for consumers’ attention. In the end, gasoline won out because it was the cheapest and delivered the most energy per unit, but it took 20 years to sort out.

Annual use of an EV should be less than the average cost of $8,000 per year for using a gasoline in many countries including the USA. Millions of EVs and PHEVs would expand the sale of electricity as an alternative to oil. No more Big OIL - think of the extra money stimulating the economy! Then we are done! No more big energy!!

Lutz, who retired earlier this year, called the car Detroits "moon shot" and an attempt to wrest the mantle of innovation back from the Japanese. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
