General Motors Chevy Volt series PHEV, which it calls "extended range electric vehicle" (EREV), part of "E-Flex" multi-fuel platform. See Chevy Volt for latest. Now Lutz envisions selling hundreds of thousands of Volts a year, probably priced below $30,000. I want to stick around to see the Volt come to market.

Extended-range electric vehicles — such as the Chevy Volt, which GM says will recharge in three hours — offer another route, adding a small gas engine to keep drivers from feeling stranded without access to fuel. Mark said on March 31st, 2009 at 5:15 am This is definitely the biggest hurtle that EVs have in my mind.

Vancouvers trolley bus fleet operates at 600 volts and god knows how many amps. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. Definitely wont work. Im certain that they have customers that make 240 KW look like a 9v battery.
