SCE is partnering with auto makers, dealers and the communities we serve to help educate our customers on ways to seamlessly connect their new EVs to an ever-changing electrical system. But I’m not sure fast charging really compensates for that—the cost to fuel the vehicle will be more expensive or comparable to gasoline.

Rising fuel-economy standards during the 2020s will do the same. While a truck-maker and its dealer can help in identifying suitable routes and matching them to electric trucks, that’s only the start of the process. Those trucks are now arriving at selected dealers in California and elsewhere. That’s about to change.

While I was aware of this trend — I see it loud and clear in my own neighborhood — I hadn’t realized how wide-spread this trend actually was in the US. In my own neighborhood I see several EV drivers with long cables from Level 2 chargers in the garage, and extension cords presumably from a 120 Volt outlet. Volker, Calvin G.
