Sales of General Motors crossovers and trucks, which include pickups, vans and SUVs, surged by double-digits in July, pushing combined sales for the year to 1,048,114 through July. Including the Cadillac Escalade, SUV sales are up 32%. Small, compact, medium, large—sales were strong across the board.

General Motors (GM) recently confirmed that the Cadillac OPTIQ electric vehicle (EV) will be built in Mexico. It will be built at General Motors’ Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico. Cadillac estimates that the dual-motor OPTIQ all-wheel drive (AWD) variant will have 300 miles of range. However, dealers will set the final price.

General Motors has announced that vehicles sold too quickly after their initial sale will have their warranties stripped ahead of multiple hotly anticipated product releases. Only the Hummer EV battery warranty will be allowed to transfer to the new owner after a quick re-sale.

General Motors discussed its future plans in China during a press conference in conjunction with the start of Auto Shanghai 2013. With more new models, the expansion of its local manufacturing capability and a growing dealer network, GM expects to increase Cadillac sales from 30,000 units last year to 100,000 units in 2015.

Buoyed by the US government’s CARS (“Cash for Clunkers”) program, US auto sales slowed their decline in the US in July, dropping on 12.1% Passenger car sales dropped 10.6% to 554, 527 units, while light truck sales dropped 14.1% Hybrids had an especially good month, with reported sales jumping 31.8% General Motors.

This vehicle could compete with upcoming Land Rover EVs, an EV Cadillac Escalade, or other massive three-row electric SUVs. Furthermore, with such massive vehicles, both will likely be offered with dual motor drive trains as a minimum, with tri or quad-motor variants potentially being used for higher trim “Turbo” versions.
