A study by Jonn Axsen and Ken Kurani from the Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Davis, estimates electricity and gasoline use under three recharging scenarios. Very broadly, ARB staff is making a number of major recommendation to the Board in reworking the ZEV regulation, including focusing it to address GHG emission reductions as well as criteria pollutants emission reductions. ARB should enact policies to accelerate the “greening” of California’s electrical transmission grids.

The car can refuel during periods of low demand on the grid, and if equipped with a bi-directional charger, can actually replenish the grid with excess energy gleaned from a renewable resource.

Several global indicators on the supply of oil and the known carbon pollution environmental damages its caused all lead us to find cleaner ways of transportation. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. Maybe they can sell it on the ability to be recycled. They will not meet my needs.
