Manufacturers will have to reduce emissions of their fleet significantly to meet the upcoming 2020 and 2021 targets. The main factors contributing to the increase of new passenger cars’ emissions in 2018 include the growing share of gasoline cars in new registrations, in particular in the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment.

EEA said that one reason for the increase in car emissions is the growing share of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment. About 38% of new car registrations were SUVs. The mass increase was observed for all vehicle segments (small, medium, large regular cars, and SUVs) and for both gasoline and diesel cars. in 2018 to 1.3%

More than half (57%) of respondents who said they intend to purchase a SUV said they want its fuel economy to be at least 25 mpg (9.4 It shows that average CO 2 emissions from the new car fleet in the EU fell by 2.6 % between 2011 and 2012.
