First Pearl GTL product shipment reaches US: synthetic base oil

The product, the first from the Qatar-based Pearl GTL plant to reach the Americas, will be stored at a hub in Houston and routed to Shell Lubricants’ GTL-enabled blending facilities throughout the United States. The plant uses natural gas from Qatar’s North Field to manufacture high-quality base oils and other GTL products.

Sasol, GE develop new anaerobic microbial technology for cleaning of Fischer-Tropsch waste water; boosting gas-to-liquids (GTL) value proposition

Sasol currently uses aerobic microbes to treat GTL and coal-to-liquids (CTL) effluents in ORYX GTL, Qatar and Synfuels, Secunda facilities. Traditional (aerobic) treatment technologies treat this effluent by converting the organics to carbon dioxide. Sasol has been developing the technology for a number of years with promising results.
