Most of the vehicles debuting at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show were powered by some sort of electricity. Not all were, of course, as there is still plenty of interest around gasoline-propelled cars, SUVs and trucks. 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV. liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine that now pumps-out 195 horsepower.

Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the 2.4 Theta II GDI, its first Gasoline Direct Injection engine before an audience of engineers attending the Ninth Annual Hyundai-Kia International Powertrain Conference in Korea. GDI application will subsequently be expanded across the gasoline engine family and applied to other Hyundai models.

Case-in-point is the all-new GV60 EV, which followed its cousins, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2020), and the Kia EV6 ( 2021). When coasting or braking, the regen system converts kinetic energy into electric energy and returns it to the battery. The power charge door, located on the left rear fender, looks just like if this car used gasoline.

You could do V2G through the DC port of the vehicle—this is what we are doing with school buses here in California, where our charging station converts AC to DC and then connects to the DC port of the vehicle to provide power. Then it takes the DC from the bus, or car, and converts it back to AC to provide power for the grid.

The fueling process is fast and easy and a FCEV operates exactly like a gasoline-powered car, but with no noise, exhaust fumes or emissions. When we took delivery of the Mirai, the dash gauge read 345 miles of estimated range, which means we could have driven from Los Angeles to the Silicon Valley and had a few miles to spare.
