New catalytic system for conversion of CO2 to methanol shows much higher activity than others now in use

Green Car Congress

In the presence of hydrogen, the Ce 4+ and Cu 1+ are reduced to Ce 3+ and Cu 0 with a change in the structure of the catalyst surface. The activation of CO 2 and its hydrogenation to alcohols or other hydrocarbon compounds is an important approach to recycle the released CO 2. CH 3 OH conversion not seen over a Cu-Zn alloy.

Brookhaven team identifies active sites on catalysts for converting CO2 to methanol

Green Car Congress

The hydrogenation of carbon dioxide is a key step in the production of methanol; catalysts made from copper (Cu) and zinc oxide (ZnO) on alumina supports are often used. Rodriguez, Ping Liu (2017) “Active sites for CO 2 hydrogenation to methanol on Cu/ZnO catalysts” Science Vol. This research was supported by the DOE Office of Science.
