Plug-in hybrid vehicles can be plugged into the electric grid – such as a normal 120 volt household outlet - to boost mileage. Since the utility grid has lower demand during overnight hours, the recharging of plug-ins would not add to the peak load. In most cases, these brands do not include renewable fuels.

You can fill it up at the gas station, and you can plug it in to any 120-volt outlet. PHEV conversions are emerging at a frenzied rate (see the frequency of CalCars-News postings), to the point where its no longer feasible to track every instance of a PHEV. We can achieve that -- today -- with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Several after-market companies have done PHEV conversions of the Ford Escape hybrid and one has done a retrofit of the F-150 pickup -- see Where PHEVs Are and ICE-Conversions.) Please feel free to tell us what you believe to be the benefits of some of the various recharging modes mentioned above in the comments section below. Vancouvers trolley bus fleet operates at 600 volts and god knows how many amps. I would prefer to recharge at home, and could do so. It does not reflect well upon you.

Last year Oregon had also aggressively negotiated with the Chinese carmaker, BYD , to manufacture its line of plug-in hybrids in the state for sale in the U.S.) In most conversions cost is about the same because of needless weight. So why has Oregon become a hotbed of activity for electric vehicles all of a sudden?
