Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) made final investment decision (FID) to advance the Appomattox deep-water development in the ultra-deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Appomattox project is located 80 miles offshore (129 kilometers) from the nearest shoreline in Louisiana, in approximately 7,200 feet (2,195 meters) of water.

USDA has reached an agreement with Silicon Valley Bank to provide a $91-million Biorefinery Assistance Program loan guarantee to Cool Planet to help the company finish construction on an advanced biofuel plant at the Port of Alexandria in Louisiana. The output of these processing stations is connected to an array of catalysts.

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) approved a supplemental Exploration Plan (EP) submitted by BP for deepwater oil and gas activities in the Gulf of Mexico. This is the first EP that BP has had approved since the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and subsequent oil spill.
