C oming this fall, mark you calendars for the Austin Energy Alt Car Expo and Conference. Although consumer tax credits for PHEVs enjoyed bipartisan support in both houses of Congress, concerns over other tax portions of the energy bill resulted in the entire tax package being removed from the original bill.

The conference was sold out; it was also essentially a PowerPoint-free zone; the basic format relied heavily on brief introductory remarks from sets of speakers representing the diverse stakeholders, followed by questions from attendees. Customers and customer reaction were also a recurrent theme at the conference. —Dan Ford.

Along with other national leaders in the PHEV movement, including Dr. Andy Frank and Mark Duvall of EPRI , I spoke to the need to fund battery research and demonstration vehicles. The press conference will be at 3:00 pm at Austin City Hall. The event is Thursday, June 29th at 7:00pm at Town Lake Center , 721 Barton Springs Road.
