At this year’s IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Mercedes-Benz is presenting preproduction models of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC F‑CELL ( earlier post ). The powerful storage battery is space-savingly installed in the rear of the SUV. Like the conventionally powered GLC, this fuel cell SUV will be produced in Bremen.

And in a true smart grid, electric cars will not only be able to draw on electricity to run their motors, they will also be able to do the reverse: send electricity stored in their batteries back into the grid when it is needed. In effect, cars would be acting like tiny power stations.
