USDA has reached an agreement with Silicon Valley Bank to provide a $91-million Biorefinery Assistance Program loan guarantee to Cool Planet to help the company finish construction on an advanced biofuel plant at the Port of Alexandria in Louisiana. One of the catalytic conversion processes creates the high-octane gasoline blendstock.

Through its Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP), for example, USDA is incentivizing more than 850 growers and landowners farming nearly 48,000 acres to establish and produce dedicated, non-food energy crops for delivery to energy conversion facilities. USDA has also worked with agencies to strengthen markets for bio-based products.

The investment includes construction of a new Ultium Cells battery cell plant in Lansing with LG and the conversion of GM’s assembly plant in Orion Township, Michigan for production of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and the electric GMC Sierra. Production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV will continue during the plant’s conversion.
