Hyundai Motor Company will deploy the company’s latest hydrogen fuel cell electric heavy-duty trucks in California in two publicly funded projects to improve the air quality in the region. This will be the largest commercial deployment of Class 8 hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks in the US.

The goal is to build a hydrogen refueling network that can be rolled out quickly, and built up over time as fuel cell trucks become more common. For a zero emission truck, you’ve got basically two choices: batteries, or hydrogen fuel cells. This is enough hydrogen for about 20-25 fillups.

Linde LLC is close to completing the first retail hydrogen fueling station the company will operate in the US. At the heart of the hydrogen fueling system is the 900-bar Linde IC 90 ionic compressor: the next generation of hydrogen compression technology which enables higher throughput and enhanced back-to-back fueling.

Linde’s newest hydrogen fueling station has officially begun operating at AC Transit’s Emeryville, California, municipal bus operating division, fueling 12 fuel cell buses and up to 20 passenger cars a day. This is the first public hydrogen fueling station in the San Francisco Bay area.

Linde has contracted with Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) in California to supply the ionic compression hydrogen fueling technology ( earlier post ) and the hydrogen for two new refueling stations, which will be located at AC Transit's Emeryville and Oakland operating divisions.
