Nor was 3M the first company to popularize magnetic media— that was Ampex , which commercialized the tape recorder in the late 1940s. A number of years ago, back when I lived in Milwaukee, I found a couple of blank reel-to-reel tapes created by 3M using the Scotch name. I bought them from a junk store, and maybe paid $2 for them.
