Under the agreement, Tesoro will purchase crude oil from Sapphire Energy’s Green Crude Farm in Columbus, New Mexico, which recently reached a new milestone: continuous cultivation and crude oil production. This begins the first step of a commercial relationship to process Green Crude oil from Sapphire’s future commercial facilities.

KiOR developed a proprietary catalytic process to produce cellulosic gasoline and diesel from lignocellulosic biomass. The BFCC process operates at moderate temperatures and pressures to convert biomass in a matter of seconds into a cellulosic crude oil that can be refined using standard refining equipment into cellulosic gasoline and diesel.

Under the agreement, Catchlight Energy will supply forestry-based feedstocks required by KiOR’s first commercial renewable fuel production facility in Columbus, Mississippi.
