In prior work with DOE, MTR has advanced membrane CO 2 capture technology for coal power plants through small engineering scale testing and studies.

The project also includes a proprietary process to convert waste biomass into carbon dioxide and hydrogen to feed the bioreactor, allowing butanol production from waste feedstocks. A novel metal complex for electrolysis of water will be used to generate the hydrogen at high rates.
