The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has established a 2050 net-zero carbon dioxide emission goal for international aviation. Previous ICAO negotiations have focused on offsetting emissions growth above a 2020 baseline. The agreement is exciting, in part because ICAO has stopped pretending to be a global climate cop.

At the start of 2023, PHEV subsidies were phased out, resulting in lower PHEV sales compared to 2022, and in December 2023, all EV subsidies ended after a ruling on the Climate and Transformation Fund. The electrification of 2/3Ws and public or shared mobility will be key to achieve emissions reductions in such cases.
