Todays hybrids have small battery packs and cannot be recharged from the utility grid system. Night time electric power is available from many renewable resources therefore reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Presently there are no plug-in electric hybrid vehicles offered by any major car company in the U.S.

The simplest recharging option is to plug the charging cable supplied with the car into a conventional 230-volt socket. The battery is then charged from the grid at a power level of 2.3 A completely depleted battery is recharged in this way within nine hours. The battery is then 80% recharged after just 30 minutes.
