To do so, the BMW Group will develop innovative production processes and systems, which will then be installed at the 14,000 m² pilot plant. The BMW Group has signed a long-term supply contract worth €2 billion for battery cells with the Swedish company Northvolt. Northvolt will obtain 100% of the energy needed to produce the battery cells regionally in northern Sweden and exclusively from wind and hydroelectric power. —Andreas Wendt.

The BMW Group presented the first BMW iX5 Hydrogen vehicles in a pilot fleet that will go into service this year. The fleet of less than 100 vehicles will then be employed internationally for demonstration and trial purposes for various target groups. The BMW Group sources the individual fuel cells from the Toyota Motor Corporation.
