Virginia Clean Cities requests proposals from Southeastern fleets interested in converting to propane Autogas

The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) and Virginia Clean Cities (VCC) at James Madison University (JMU) are requesting proposals from fleets in the southeastern US interested in converting eligible gasoline vehicles to run on propane autogas. The application deadline is Friday, 12 August 2011, at 5pm EDT.

EPA awards $8M in FY2014 clean diesel grants in 21 states, Puerto Rico

The grants will fund projects such as retrofitting older school buses to improve air quality for children riding to school, upgrading marine propulsion and agriculture engines, and replacing long haul truck engines. NSF Awards RAPID Response Grant to Modular Genetics and University Collaborators to Develop Bio-Dispersants for Oil Spill Clean-Up

The US National Science Foundation has awarded a one-year, $200,000 RAPID Response grant to synthetic biology company Modular Genetics , Inc. Modular has shown that a particular bacterium converts soybean hulls into a surfactant that can potentially be used to replace the toxic chemical dispersants that were used previous in the Gulf.

$4M ARPA-E award to Lanzatech to improve design of bioreactors for waste-gas-to-fuels fermentation technology

LanzaTech, a producer of low-carbon fuels and chemicals from waste gases, was awarded a $4-million grant by the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) as one of the 15 REMOTE projects ( earlier post ) receiving a combined $34 million to find advanced biocatalyst technologies that can convert natural gas to liquid fuel for transportation.
