The battery-powered cars that Chinese companies are showing are intended to be much less expensive than those planned by big foreign companies. Chinese auto makers also showed other types of "new energy" vehicles, including regular gasoline-electric hybrids to compete with Toyota Motor Corp.s Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Co.

GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. Honda has probably sold more Civics in a year than the combined total of all 18 of those GM models. If the EV1 was viable (or even close) we would see Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc all with 80 mile cars right now.do you see that?
