The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. Id like to be a fly on the wall when an H2 franchisee asks to put in a hydrogen pump at Chevron. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. The bottleneck is infrastructure.

None of the new electric cars are planning to use old-tech lead acid batteries. Wind, hydro, DC transmission lines, and smart grid electronics are also Portland strengths. Chevron owns the NiMH patents and have not allowed EV size batts to be built. Current batteries in new Toyota hybridsare ~$3000 if they need to be replaced.
