Robert Dorner and his colleagues are looking at converting CO 2 and hydrogen (both won from sea-water) over catalysts, using the CO 2 as a building block to form synthetic fuel. The in-situ reduction environment of the iron catalyst plays a pivotal role in the products formed, with chain-growth only achieved at higher activation temperatures.
