Now an eight-year veteran on the Australian scene, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. For a plug-in hybrid it is, but those prices are some $15,000 more than the equivalent Outlander petrol versions. Our real-world test used a 50kW Tritium DC public fast charger. Is it good value?

They’re a big improvement on the Ioniq 5’s slightly cheap looking and feeling doors. In these days of screen overloads, here’s another one you can’t escape. A Type 2 adapter plugs into the charging port and there’s a powerpoint on this, meaning you can use the car’s battery to power anything up to 3.3kW.

Not cheap, but it ups the racy ambience. Porsche says it takes 93 minutes to go from 5-80 percent using a 50kW DC public charger (the most common type), or nine hours from 0-100 percent using an 11kW AC charger – such as a home wallbox. AC charging : 11kW, Type 2 plug. DC charging : 270kW, CCS combo plug.

There’s a household socket under the rear seats (I plugged the Nespresso machine in here), and another on the charge cable, ideal for things like an electric bike. These days, real luxury should be about escaping screens. Genesis GV60 AWD – luxurious, but it comes at a cost Not that our GV60 Lux is cheap.
