For as long as we can remember, there’s been an ongoing love-to-hate relationship between the BBC's Top Gear show and electric cars. Until yesterday that is, when Top Gear Magazine caught everyone off guard by announcing that its Luxury Car of The Year was none other than the $95,900 Fisker Karma Plug-in Hybrid.

The well-respected Consumer Reports doesn't pull any punches, and its review of the 2012 Fisker Karma range-extended electric luxury sedan is no exception. The magazine all but savaged the car, calling it "full of flaws" and deeming its touchscreen controls an "ergonomic disaster."

Fisker Automotive knows this better than most, after its Karma range-extended sedan was savaged by the magazine earlier this year. High praise indeed, and it's sure to join Motor Trend's 'Car of. In contrast, the 2012 Tesla Model S looks to have gone down rather well, CR describing it as "a revelation".
