It's official, the Cadillac Converj is to be the second extended-range electric vehicle after the Volt. The first Level III chargers deployed by Etec will offer free juice. Therefore, until we get quick-charge batteries -- based on new breakthroughs, Ill take a WAG and estimate that we will have real 5-minute quick-charge batteries in perhaps 10 years -- we are likely to get our juice mostly from our home chargers. GM says it is already looking ahead to the next generation of Volt-based vehicles — it unveiled the Cadillac Converj concept in January — and says costs will come down as the technology spreads to more models. A simple, clean, efficient EV that wont run out of juice because of its on-board gas generator.
