As far as Maverick buyers, most of whom will be buying their first pickup, they will unknowingly become hybrid ambassadors. Who will buy the all-new 2022 Ford Maverick? Regardless who buys it, the Maverick is a success already for Ford and is a key piece in the company’s future. A pretty good problem to have.

The EPA rates the fuel economy at 34 mpg city/31 highway/33 combined. The Carnival hybrid has a combined fuel economy (33 mpg) on par with the Chrysler Pacifica (32 mpg) and Toyota Sienna (36 mpg), which are both hybrids. The urge to buy a large SUV will be tempered just a bit. Maybe a lot.

The EPA rated the Santa Cruz’ fuel economy at 19 mpg city/27 highway/22 combined. The base Santa Cruz engine is the non-turbo 2.5L

So who does Ford think will buy the all-new 2022 Maverick? According to the Ford marketing team we spoke with at a recent media launch event, their target buyer will be young, female, Hispanic, and urban, including a full hybrid model that may get up to 40 mpg (it hasn’t been certified by the EPA at press time).
