But as with most things that seem simple on the surface, going from a crossover body to pickup body is a bit more complex, not the least of which is who Hyundai thinks will be buying the Santa Cruz. The EPA rated the Santa Cruz’ fuel economy at 19 mpg city/27 highway/22 combined. Heck, you can even go off-road if opting for AWD.

As far as Maverick buyers, most of whom will be buying their first pickup, they will unknowingly become hybrid ambassadors. Who will buy the all-new 2022 Ford Maverick? Regardless who buys it, the Maverick is a success already for Ford and is a key piece in the company’s future. A pretty good problem to have.

Fuel Economy King in a Not-So-Small Pickup. This compact pickup is smaller than the mid- and full-size trucks roaming our streets, but size alone doesn’t explain how it sips fuel. The EPA has rated the Maverick Hybrid’s fuel economy at 42 mpg city/33 highway and 37 combined. A smaller, but not small pickup.

So who does Ford think will buy the all-new 2022 Maverick? This may be so, but after driving a few different configurations, they may be surprised this will not be who ends-up buying the Maverick. The power plants in the Maverick are proven through their use on other Ford vehicles, which lends confidence when buying a first year model.
