GM has been saying for a while now that they had picked their supplier for the LiIon battery in the Volt, but they weren’t prepared to announce who it was. Since Compact Power is based in Detroit, and GM is their first big customer, maybe that’s enough of a reason to build at least a token factory in the U.S. URL: [link].

It is thought that the cars that Renault is building to function with the Better Place model will have the ability to have its power supply swapped and the newly announced Tesla Model S is said to also incorporate this concept. Vancouvers trolley bus fleet operates at 600 volts and god knows how many amps.

The new plug-in vehicle will be able to exceed highway speed limits, go 100 miles on a charge and recharge in four to eight hours using a 220-volt line, similar to those for clothes dryers, said Mark Perry, director of product planning for Nissan North America. Nissan plans to roll out the car in 12 to 15 markets next year, Perry said.
