There is no denying the need for nuclear power in a world that hungers for clean, carbon-free energy. Molten salt nuclear reactors (MSRs) fit the bill—and, according to at least one source , China may be well on their way to developing MSR technology. Live Science , the Chinese government plans to build several large MSRs.

The project will draw on ORNL’s expertise in fuels, materials, instrumentation and controls, design concepts, and modeling and simulation for advanced reactors, as well as the lab’s experience in the design, construction and operation of the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment, the only molten salt reactor ever built.
