SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers LLC, the joint venture between SGL Group and BMW Group ( earlier post ), will build a carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Moses Lake, WA. In the next step, the facility in Moses Lake will convert the polyacrylic fibers into the actual carbon fibers.

SGL Group and BMW Group have formed a 51:49 joint venture to manufacture carbon fibers and fabrics for the automotive industry. The joint venture will be operated through two companies, one based in North America (SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers LLC), and the other in Germany (SGL Automotive Fibers GmbH & Co KG).

The participating companies, including BMW, Daimler AG, Elring Klinger, Manz AG, and Rockwood Lithium, signed a letter of intent at the groundbreaking ceremony on 29 May in Ulm. SGL Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of carbon-based products and materials. Auto manufacturers are also involved in the network.
