A Better Place-led project consortium has launched an electric taxi project—including a battery-switch station—at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The Battery Switch Station was built in partnership with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and will initially serve 10 Renault Fluence Z.E. electric taxis at this time.

Better Place launched a 90-day switchable-battery electric taxi in Tokyo in partnership with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and Nihon Kotsu, Tokyo’s largest taxi operator. The batteries for these cars are provided by A123 Systems.

The switchable battery electric vehicle taxi pilot in Tokyo, Japan, has been extended by Better Place and will now be in operation through to the end of the year. The company hopes that by extending the trial it will be able further evaluate and optimise the design and integration of the components of the system, [.].

Better Place introduced its electric vehicle (EV) services platform at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in conjunction with Renault’s unveiling of the Fluence ZE Concept with Quickdrop (switchable) battery system and an expanded agreement with Renault, committing both companies to a volume of at least 100,000 electric cars in Israel and Denmark by 2016.

Having already established projects in countries including Denmark and Israel, as well as making breakthroughs in the US state of California, Better Place is now set to embark on projects in Japan and Australia. It will partner with Nihon Kotsu, the capital city’s largest taxi operator.
