The first wave of F-150 production-ready prototype extended range electric vehicles is soon due to be delivered to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to kick-off a pilot study in the PG&E fleet. Specs for the powertrain in the F-150 include a 2.0L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine powering an 82 kW (peak) Remy DC generator.

Mercedes-Benz is introducing the A-Class E-CELL, a compact five-seat battery-electric car with a range of more than 200 km (124 miles) (NEDC), targeted as a family EV for urban areas. that car was missing precisely what the Volt (and any other would-be electric car under consideration today) is missing -- an appropriate battery technology that provides decent power within a decent weight and space constraint at anything approaching a decent price. 150 miles is fine more. Interesting in any case.
