We believe our evaluation will open up a lower cost product to our OEM customers interested in reaching the fuel economy gains offered by 48-volt mild hybrid systems. Nickel-zinc batteries are chemically very similar to nickel-cadmium, NiCd. The nickel-zinc cell delivers more than 0.4V Marc Nalbach of HELLA.

Its been improving over time, but the power density and cost issues are still steep for what exists thus far. based technology will actually achieve any economy in production. It was a Manufacturing Failure, as GM NEVER planned to build the car in Volume, so No Economies of Scale were ever achieved. Interesting in any case.
