Methanol which is produced with CRI’s method is one of the most environmentally friendly liquid fuels available today. Currently, China produces most of its methanol from coal. Geely is now working on a new design, eliminating the need for the small gasoline tank. The most common blend contains 15% methanol and 85% gasoline.

The combination of harvesting whole forests and burning long-sequestered carbon sources such as coal or oil has impaired the Earth’s carbon cycle at an increasing pace. Gasoline/diesel fueling stations to replenish the liquid fuel for these engines are readily available.

That being said, even a car that derives its energy from coal power plants would be far more clean. Having centralized energy production in that way allows for centralized pollution control measures, filters, so-called "clean coal" rather than depending on X number of cars, manufacturers, and consumers to deal with pollution control.
