In response, the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Renewable Fuels Association charged that the study was fundamentally flawed. The study claims mechanical damage and suggests degraded engine performance, emissions and durability on conventional vehicles from the use of E15 or E20 fuel. We believe the study is significantly flawed.

Honda’s Clarity, with 350 bar compressed gas storage is achieving a 280-mile range, and the 2009 Toyota FCHV using 700 bar storage has a state range of 480 miles (on the 10-15 cycle). Improvements in system design, including lower catalyst loadings in the fuel cell, are expected to reduce this number further, according to ARB.
