Toshiba Corporation expanded its SCiB product offering with the launch of a 20Ah-HP rechargeable lithium-ion battery cell that delivers high energy and high power at the same time. Toshiba drew on its knowhow in current high-energy and high-power products to develop a new cell that combines the advantages of both.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Its been improving over time, but the power density and cost issues are still steep for what exists thus far. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
